Pre-Treatment Instructions
We’re grateful you’ve chosen Atlanta Endo Surgical Center for your endodontic care. Please use this information as a guide and please call us if you have any unanswered questions.
Medications
Please continue taking all normally prescribed medications for blood pressure, thyroid problems, and any other medical conditions, unless we tell you otherwise. If you have a question or concern about a specific medication, please contact our office prior to your appointment. You can also ask us during your consultation.
If your doctor or other healthcare provider has recommended you take an antibiotic before your procedure (for instance, due to mitral valve prolapse, heart murmur, rheumatic heart disease, or prosthesis), please make sure you are on the correct antibiotic on the day of your treatment.
To reduce inflammation, we recommend taking over-the-counter ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) prior to your treatment.
NOTE: Alcohol intake is not advised while taking any of these medications.
Food and Water
We recommend that you eat a full breakfast or lunch before your appointment. You can also drink hydrating liquids, as usual. We want to make sure you’re comfortable.
Transportation
You might be wondering if you need a ride from our office. We perform procedures using local anesthesia, and most patients do not experience problems with driving or returning to work following treatment. You can expect to experience numbness for a few hours post-treatment, but that should not impact your ability to drive. However, if you feel more comfortable having someone bring you, use your best judgement.
First Appointment
Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation (evaluation) explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, treatment can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will determine if a second appointment is necessary to provide treatment.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
Your referral slip and any X-rays if applicable.
A list of medications you are presently taking.
A valid driver’s license or photo ID and current dental insurance card if applicable.
Please alert the office and clinical staff if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to treatment (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.) or require medication prior to dental cleanings (i.e. antibiotics, for pre-med.)
X-Rays
We will capture x-rays to evaluate the need and viability of endodontic therapy.
